Jose de Diego Day
April 17. Celebration of birthday of José de Diego, revered as a patriot, lawyer, and political leader. He
was the first president of the Puerto Rican House of Representatives under U.S. rule. A staunch supporter of
preserving island culture, he favored Puerto Rico independence.
